Heavy Weight Ferro Rod
A heavy weight ferrocerium rod mounted on a Fallow deer antler tine handle.
A steel scraper is attached to the handle with a 550 paracord lanyard, in a choice of two colours ('Fireball' Red or 'Tomahawk Brown).
Our HEAVY WEIGHT FERRO ROD is made of a harder ferrocerium alloy. This lends it to heavier use from adults and should last a long time. Longevity of rods of this size are often expressed as several thousand strikes.
This design uses a ferrocerium blank measuring 12.5mm in diameter, with about 60mm of usable length.
This is not flint and steel. The metal alloy mix in ferrocerium rods can vary in composition, they are made from a few different reactive metals. The active pyrophoric element is Cerium, which bursts into flame on contact with air (oxygen) to produce a much hotter spark than old skool flint and steel.
